SEVEN MEN WHO CAN BENCH PRESS 1,000 LBS. WILL COMPETE THIS SATURDAY TO FIND OUT WHO IS THE STRONGEST ON EARTH

HOUSTON, TX — May 12, 2022 — Seven of the strongest powerlifters in the world will compete this Saturday in Kingwood to find out who is the “Baddest Bencher on the Planet.” Each man’s starting lift must be at least 1,000 lbs.

The powerlifters include Rob Forell, 41, of Pennsylvania; Jimmy Kolb, 31, of Virginia; Tiny Meeker, 50, of Humble, Texas; Bob Merkh, 38, of New Jersey; Richard Putnam, 44, of New York; Doug Smithie, 47, of North Carolina; and Kale Eemeli Ylitalo-James, 38 of the United Kingdom.

The contest will include the current world record holder, Jimmy Kolb. In March 2022, Kolb set a new world record bench press of 1,320 lbs. He is the first man in history to bench press over 1300 pounds.

The “Baddest Bencher on the Planet II” competition will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at The Nathaniel Center located at 804 Russell Palmer Rd in Kingwood.

Lifting starts at 9 a.m. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for students. The “Baddest Bencher” will be available via Pay-Per-View for $19.99 (or $9.99 if purchased) early at https://baddestbencher.com.

The “Baddest Bencher on the Planet II” is expected to be broadcast on ESPN2 later August 2022.

On the same day, more than 100 national and international lifters will compete in two other events at The Nathaniel Center. The International Powerlifting Association will hold its 2022 Bench Press and Deadlift Worlds meet and the “Full Power” Worlds meet, which is a Squat, Bench and Deadlift competition.

The organizer of all of the day’s events is Tiny Meeker, one of the strongest benchers in history. He was the first man to ever bench press 1,102 lbs. Meeker set a new bench press world record of 1,125 lbs. in November 2021, which Kolb eclipsed just months later.

Meeker envisioned the “Baddest Bencher” competition in 2020 during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ever the optimist, Meeker organized the first “Baddest Bencher” in 2021 so many of the strongest men on Earth could come together and push each other to do their best.

Powerlifter Will Barotti won the first “Baddest Bencher on the Planet” competition in 2021 with a bench press of 1,091 lbs.
